I grew up on a small dairy farm in Shenandoah County where farm to table eating and DIY home and personal products were a way of life. We were homesteading before homesteading was cool. College was my ticket away from farm life but you know what they say about telling God your plans. Now my husband and I raise small flocks of grass fed broiler chickens, laying hens, honeybees, and two daughters on our Augusta County farm. Starting RefillRenew is a passion because I want desperately to create a better world for my daughters (and yours.)
I've been fascinated by skincare and cosmetics since I was a teenager. I worked in retail for a couple of mainstream brands and explored even more products through a beauty subscription box. But when I was trying to get pregnant with my daughter, I became very aware of just how many chemicals were in all of my favorite products. I made a conscious effort to clean up my cosmetics routine (the effort is ongoing!) and that awareness spread into my decisions about other personal care and household items as well. I actually love researching and finding new products, and I can't wait to share what I find with our customers! I teach in Augusta County and am active in the community theatre scene. My husband and I have a four-year-old daughter, who is super-cute but also the reason our house is never clean.
What do we do with our containers?
We are committed to recycling and re-purposing our packaging as much as possible. We send plastic outerwrap and packing pillows to Trex in Winchester to be made into composite decking. We save our gallon jugs and five-gallon buckets to transport product back and forth. We'll also share them with anyone else who wants to put them to good use. Some of our product will eventually come in refillable 55-gallon drums! We also work closely with our suppliers to request low-waste packaging during shipment.
